In September 2007, Roderick Barton opened ‘Rod Barton Invites’, a small commercial gallery located above the Griffin Pub in Old Street, London. Six curated exhibitions were held at the gallery, which was open to the public at the weekends.

Although the gallery did not represent individual artists, nevertheless, two artists were successfully introduced to galleries outside London. These artists have been offered solo exhibitions at: Bob Van Orsouw Gallery, Zurich, Switzerland & Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston, USA, respectively.

Rod Barton Invites’ focused its programme in contemporary abstract painting.
The exhibitions were critically acclaimed in a number of art publications, including Turps Banana magazine.

Considering the relatively short life of the gallery, sales were very encouraging.
Buyers were private collectors, notably Charles Saatchi.

Sadly, the gallery had to close prematurely because the building’s owner wished to sell the premises. However, the gallery continues to promote the artists who exhibited at ‘Rod Barton Invites’ on its website.
